Some people find their purpose. Mine found me, in the most unlikely place, through the most unlikely story.
I grew up in the Bronx as an Afro-Latina daughter of addicts. Abuse was familiar. Neglect was routine. And the message I heard, spoken and unspoken, was clear: little girls like you don't amount to much.
Statistically, they weren't wrong.
But statistics don't account when God's involved.
When we moved to Toronto, I thought I had finally outrun the poverty, the trauma, the chaos. What I discovered instead was one of the most important lessons of my life — poverty and trauma are mental locations, not physical ones. You can change your zip code and still be imprisoned by everything that happened in the last one.
So the real work began. Not on my circumstances. On me.
Through life lessons I didn't ask for, favor I couldn't earn, and divine opportunities that had no business landing in my lap — God kept showing me the same thing over and over:
Everything you went through was preparation. Not punishment.
The abuse. The rejection. The neglect. The little girl in the Bronx who was told to shrink her dreams, all of it was curriculum for the calling that was already written over her life.
I just needed the AUDACIDI to believe it. And when I finally did?
